As part of its efforts to enhance community awareness of the risks of human trafficking crimes and build the capacities of personnel involved in protection and prevention, the Fund for Assisting Victims of Trafficking in Persons, in cooperation with the National Coordinating Committee for Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons, is organizing a series of awareness-raising workshops in Damietta Governorate from 7 to 10 September, targeting the training of approximately 120 personnel from various relevant groups and entities.
These workshops are part of an intensive training plan aimed at building qualified community cadres capable of effectively addressing human trafficking crimes by enhancing skills in the early identification of victims and groups most vulnerable to exploitation, and raising awareness of protection, reporting, and secure referral mechanisms.
The target groups include a diverse range of community cadres, including Social Women Leaders at the Ministry of Social Solidarity; supervisors and social workers working at observation centres; Imams and Female Religious Preachers at the Ministry of Endowments-Awqaf; priests representing the Coptic Orthodox Church; personnel working at the specialized national councils and social protection committees; labour inspectors; and personnel working in the Human Rights Department.
In designing the training programmes, consideration was given to ensuring that their topics and key areas were aligned with the nature of the duties performed by each target group, thereby ensuring the greatest possible practical benefit and maximizing the role of each entity within the human trafficking prevention and combating system.
The Fund for Assisting Victims of Trafficking in Persons emphasizes that investing in building the capacities of community cadres is one of the key pillars of crime prevention, particularly as early access to victims, monitoring risk indicators, and timely intervention are critical factors in reducing the risks of exploitation.
Through these specialized programmes, the Fund seeks to contribute to building an integrated community network of qualified cadres capable of the early identification of human trafficking cases, providing the necessary support, and ensuring secure referral to the competent authorities, thereby strengthening the protection system and supporting national efforts to combat this crime and preserve human rights and dignity.
